National Exit Test (NExT) upcoming: newly proposed
National Exit Test (abbreviated as NExT)
For current Indian MBBS students, the upcoming qualifying examinations follow the traditional system as the newly proposed National Exit Test (NExT) has been deferred for a few years. Instead, final-year students and graduates must take the established entrance exams for licensing and postgraduate (PG) admissions.
The necessary actionable details for your next required medical exams include:
- NEET-PG: The standard national-level entrance test required for admission to Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), and postgraduate diploma courses.
- NEET-MDS: The equivalent entrance test for postgraduate dental students.
- FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination): The mandatory screening test for Indian citizens holding primary medical qualifications from institutions outside of India who wish to obtain a license to practice.
Important Update Regarding NExT:
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially delayed the implementation of the National Exit Test (NExT)—which is intended to serve as both a final-year MBBS licentiate exam and a common PG entrance exam—for two to three years. In the meantime, the NMC plans to conduct preliminary mock or practice tests to prepare the system before rolling it out nationally. To confirm exam schedules, register for upcoming tests, or check information bulletins, monitor the official National Medical Commission and check the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences portals.
History:
