One-year B.Ed. program to resume after a decade

The one-year B.Ed. program will begin in the new academic session of 2026. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has decided to implement a new one-year B.Ed. course from 2026. This decision has been taken under the New Education Policy (NEP-2020) to address the shortage of teachers and provide employment opportunities to young people quickly. Moreover, this course will give more importance to practical training, internships, and school-based learning, so that trained teachers can enter the classroom with real-world experience.

BA-BSc and BCom-BEd programs launched

According to the NCTE report, currently, a two-year B.Ed. program is being conducted in about 750 colleges across the country, while a four-year integrated B.Ed. (BA-BEd, BSc-BEd, BCom-BEd) was also started from the last academic session. This course, which started in 2023, will conclude in 2027. From next year, new specializations such as physical education, art education, yoga education, and Sanskrit education will also be added. Along with this, the TET rules and standards will also be revised before 2027, so that eligibility can be determined in accordance with the new teacher training model.

Previously, the duration of the B.Ed. program was two years, but from 2026, this course will be completed in one year. This change is best for students who have completed their four-year graduation or post-graduation. The NCTE believes that more effective teachers will be produced in a shorter time, which will lead to a significant improvement in the quality of education. Four-year graduates in Bihar will pass out in 2027: The NCTE has started preparing for major changes in the teacher education system.

It is noteworthy that the four-year undergraduate course has been implemented in the state universities from the 2023-24 academic session. The first batch will pass out in 2027. Accordingly, the NCTE is set to launch a one-year B.Ed. program from the 2026-27 academic year, allowing students with a four-year undergraduate degree to directly enter the next stage of teacher training. The two-year B.Ed. program will also continue, admitting students with a three-year undergraduate degree.  For admission to the M.Ed. program, candidates with either a four-year integrated B.Ed. or a two-year B.Ed. degree will be eligible.
