NEET-UG: The Government told the Supreme Court about its plan

The government filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that it is considering the option of conducting the exam in two phases, similar like the JEE, NEET-UG is also being considered in two stages: Main and Advanced, along with an online test.

Responding to petitions filed following this year's NEET exam paper leak, the government has sated conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) are already being conducted online. The possibility of moving NEET-UG to CBT mode is also being discussed.

The affidavit states that implementing a two-tier examination system, similar to the JEE, will not only strengthen the security of the exam but also allow for better assessment of students' abilities. However, the government clarified that a final decision on this matter has not yet been made.

The government has also announced that it has formed a task force headed by infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani. The task force's recommendations will be taken into account before finalizing the changes being discussed in the NEET exam. A decision on the new exam structure will be made only after receiving the task force's report.

The decision will not be implemented suddenly

In the affidavit, filed ahead of the hearing on Friday, August 6, the Center also informed the Supreme Court that no major changes to the examination system will be implemented suddenly. Students will be informed of the new pattern will in advance, so they have ample opportunity to prepare for the new system.

The detailed affidavit also details the security measures for the exam. Several technical measures for the exam. Several technical and administrative measures have been implemented along with the new new law to prevent paper leaks and other irregularities. These include biometric verification for question papers, GPS-tracked one-time lock trunks, and encrypted digital question banks.

The government has also said that before finalising the new examination system of NEET-UG, extensive consultations will be held with all stakeholders including the Health Ministry and NMC.

Key Updates and Developments

Shift to Online/CBT Mode: The ministry of Education stated in an affidavit that moving NEET-UG to a Computer Based Online testing(CBT) framework.

Supreme Court Petitions: Candidates recently approached the Supreme Court raising concerns over alleged mismatches and discrepancies in their OMR response sheets compared to copies provided by the National Testing Agency(NTA) ahead of the counselling rounds.

Performs and Security: The government highlighted the implementation of stricter anti cheating measures via the public Examination Act alongside institutional supervision to restore total exam integrity following earlier cycle disruptions and the june re-examination.
