Medical Postgraduate (MD/MS) Stipend

Postgraduate stipends are considerably higher and often increase incrementally with each year of study (1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year). These generally range from ₹50,000 to over ₹1,30,000 per month.

State Variability: Delhi (Such as: Central institutes and state government hospitals) consistently offers some of the highest stipends in the country, often exceeding ₹1,00,000 even in the first year.

Increment: Most states provide an annual increment of ₹2,000–₹5,000 for each successive year of the residency program.

Deemed/Private Universities: Stipends in private and deemed institutions are highly variable; while some match government scales, others may offer lower amounts (e.g., ₹40,000–₹60,000).

Medical Undergraduate (MBBS Interns) Stipend

The internship stipend typically ranges from ₹10,000 to ₹30,000 per month, depending on the state.

Higher End: States like West Bengal (approx. ₹30,000–₹43,000) and Karnataka (for specific rural services) often provide higher stipends.

Lower End: States like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh generally fall in the lower range (approx. ₹10,000–₹15,000).

Note: Private and Deemed universities may follow their own pay scales, which sometimes differ from the government-mandated rates for their state.

Important Considerations

Service Bonds: Many states require a mandatory service bond (typically 1–3 years) upon completion of the course. Failure to comply with these service terms often results in substantial financial penalties, which can range from ₹10 lakhs to over ₹50 lakhs, depending on the state and course.

Dynamic Updates: Stipends are subject to revision based on state government notifications and Dearness Allowance (DA) adjustments. It is recommended to check the specific official portal of the medical education department for the state where you are applying.

Data Source: You can find detailed state-wise breakdowns and official notices on the National Medical Commission (NMC) website or authorized state counseling portals.
