Suvendu Adhikari is a prominent Indian politician from West Bengal, who has been nominated by the BJP to be the state's next Chief Minister in May 2026.He has been the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly since 2021 and is the son of veteran Medinipur politician Sisir Adhikari.

  • Political journey: He began his career with the Congress party, then joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and played a major role in the Nandigram movement. In 2020, he joined the BJP. 
  • Education: Adhikari received a Master of Arts degree from Rabindra Bharati University in the year 2011.
  • Nandigram win: In the 2021 assembly elections, he caused a major upset by defeating Mamata Banerjee from the Nandigram seat. 
  • 2026 CM post: In the legislature party meeting, he has been elected the next Chief Minister of Bengal, who will be the first CM from BJP. 
  • Position: He has previously been a Member of Parliament and a Minister in the Government of West Bengal.
  • Controversy: He previously served as the Transport Minister in West Bengal in the early 2010s, came under the investigation of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Saradha Group's Ponzi scheme & Narada Sting Operation Case. (As per wikipedia)
Currently: He is one of the strongest faces of BJP and is leading the party in West Bengal. He is scheduled to take oath on 9 May 2026 at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.
