List of Fake Universities
(As of February 2026)
There are 32 institutions figure in the list of fake universities/institutions, maintained by UGC, operating across 12 states in India, issuing a warning to students and parents to avoid these institutions whose degrees are deemed invalid for employment and higher education. Delhi has the highest number of such universities with 12, followed by Uttar Pradesh with four. UGC (University Grant Commission) has clarified that these institutions are not recognized by the Central or State Governments.

- UGC has sent letters to State Government's Department of Higher Education / Principal Secretaries to take appropriate action against the fake Institutions in the respective state.
UGC Guideline about Duel Programme Simultaneously Exclude Ph.D Course
The UGC guidelines allow students to pursue two academic programmes simultaneously. You can combine regular, online, or Open and Distance Learning (ODL) modes, provided that class timings for physical programmes do not overlap. These rules apply to undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma programmes, but exclude Ph.D. courses.
Allowed Programme Combinations
- Two Regular (Physical) Programmes: Permitted only if the class schedules and exam dates do not clash.
- Regular + Online/ODL: You can pursue one full-time regular degree alongside an online or distance learning degree (e.g., a B.Tech with an online Diploma in Data Analytics).
- Two Online/ODL Programmes: You can enroll in up to two Open and Distance Learning or Online degree programmes at the same time.
