 Yes, that is correct. Following the collapse of a 33-meter concrete slab section in early May, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been working around the clock to construct a temporary iron-frame Bailey bridge over the damaged portions.

Bhagalpur District Magistrate Dr. Naval Kishore Choudhary and BRO officials recently confirmed that the installation is in its final stages. Here is the current status of the restoration:

 Target Timeline: The administration is strictly aiming for June 5, 2026 (with a maximum buffer up to June 7) to completely restore connectivity.

 Restricted Access: The temporary structure is designed without ground support and relies entirely on the existing bridge framework. Because of this structural constraint, only light motor vehicles (LMVs) and small vehicles will be allowed to cross once it opens.

 Heavy Vehicles: Buses and heavy commercial trucks will remain strictly barred from the bridge for the time being. Their movement will continue to be diverted or managed via cargo ships and ferry vessels across the Ganga.

This step will bring massive relief to daily commuters traveling between the Kosi-Seemanchal region and eastern/southern Bihar, who have been relying on temporary boat services for the past few weeks.

Alternative Arrangements for Heavy Vehicles: Until full structural repairs are executed, heavy vehicles are being diverted to much longer alternative routes (such as via the Munger Ganga Bridge). To help local trade, the Bhagalpur district administration has also commercialized and regulated private cargo vessels, ships, and ferry services operating between local ghats (such as Barari, Babupur, and Mahadevpur) to ferry smaller commercial vehicles, tractors, and daily commuters across the Ganga.  

Before opening to the public on June 5, the BRO and district administration will conduct strict load testing and safety audits to ensure the temporary structure can withstand daily vehicular pressure.
