MBBS Government College Scores & Cutoffs

There is no "fixed" score required for MBBS in a government college. Admission is determined by your All India Rank (AIR) and your category, which fluctuate every year based on the difficulty of the exam, the number of test-takers, and the number of available seats.

General Category: To secure a seat in a top-tier government medical college, candidates typically need a very high percentile (often requiring a score well above 650–680 out of 720).

Rank Matters: For government medical colleges (AIQ - All India Quota), the closing ranks can be quite competitive. For example, top colleges in major cities often close for General candidates within the top 500–5,000 ranks.

State Quota: Each state manages its own counseling for 85% of the seats in government colleges, while 15% are reserved for All India Quota (AIQ). Cutoff scores vary significantly by state.

Category-Based Cutoffs: Qualifying marks differ by category. For the 2026 session, the general qualifying percentile is the 50th percentile, while it is 40th percentile for OBC, SC, and ST candidates. However, qualifying the exam does not guarantee a seat; admission is granted only to those who meet the specific college's closing rank during counseling.
