Improving the Personal Health

A proverb says that health is wealth. It is truly said that of all things in the world health is the most valuable that one can possess. Money is no doubt a pleasant thing. However, it can give no pleasure to a man of ruined health. As body and mind are closely connected, the mind cannot be sound and cheerful without sound health.

Personal Health

A healthy man can enjoy life in every way. An unhealthy man lives the most miserable life. He may have intelligence, merit and wealth, but he cannot put them to use and reap their benefits.

For maintaining and improving the personal health; certain principles are essential to follow. These are:

(a) Cleanliness of Body Organs: The cleanliness of our body organs is first step to get healthy life.

(i) Cleanliness of Skin: The skin is the largest organ of our body. It protects our whole body, covers it, gives it a shape and the external appearance. Depending on the purpose. It shows adaptations. The skin is thick where it is exposed to friction, such as soles of the feet and palms or the hands. The hair follicles in the skin protect the body. The skin regenerates and gets rid of old skin. For cleanliness of skin, we should use good quality soap and take bath with fresh water.

(ii) Cleanliness of Teeth: Teeth are helpful when having food, to break food into particles for easy digestion, for the shape and fullness of the face, when pronouncing sounds and for the personality. After eating food, some food particles may remain sticking to our teeth. These food particles form a medium for the germs to grow, harm our gums and teeth, and cause bad health. Brushing of teeth every day does not let the germs grow. Brushing of teeth before going to bed is very good habit.

(iii) Cleanliness of Hair: Hair on your head are meant for protection and appearance. These should be kept healthy. Hair minimize injuries to the head. Hair protect the brain which is a valuable organ placed inside the skull. Dust particles are stick to our hair. To keep the hair clean, it is necessary to bathe daily. It is better to use recommended hair oils in the roots of the hair. Always use standard quality hair products.

(iv) Cleanliness of Nails: Nails are formed by the thickening of skin on the fingers and toes. Nails are formed to protect finger tips and toes as they are constantly in friction when performing various tasks. The squamous layer of the skin is not alive, so is the tip of the nail. The start of the nail on the finger is known as the nail root or matrix and this has life. Trim the nails regularly to keep them in shape, also washing hands often keep them relatively clean underneath, but if not, use an under nail scraper to get the crude out. Use nail cutter to the finger nails and toe nails. Brush toe nails to remove any soil.

(v) Cleanliness of Eyes: They are the sensory organs that help us to see. The fact that we can see an object at once with both eyes is known as binocular vision. The eyebrows and the lashes are placed to protect the eyes from foreign bodies or germs. For the cleanliness of eyes; do not touch the eyes directly with hands or dirty cloth, Eyes should be washed twice every day with cold and clean water and clean hands. While doing so, eyes should be closed so that water does not get into them. Inside, the eye is self-protected.

(vi) Cleanliness of Ears: The ear is the sensory organ that you need to hear. Clean ears with soap so that there is no dust on the folds of the ears. Mustard oil or doctor's syringe may be used to clean the thick liquid that comes from the internal passage. The syringe should not be self-administered. Buds may also be used.

(vii) Rest and Sleep: Rest is the cessation of work, exertion, or activity which could result into peace, ease, relief from disturbance, mental, emotional tranquility and healing. Rest is necessary to restore vigour to the body because most diseases are caused by or made worse by stress.

Sleep is undoubtedly one of the most essential requirements for the human body to function properly. It plays a very important role in ensuring the wellness of the human body both physically as well as mentally. In fact, the importance of sleep is entire lifetime.

(b) Exercise: Regular exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Study after study shows the benefits it can have. Not only does regular exercise help you to manage your weight and reduce your risk of developing diseases. It also can help to prevent and treat mental health problems. It can boost your well-being and mood, and is a great way to unwind from the stresses of life.

(c) Clothes: We usually have two layers of clothing. Undergarments or underwears and other clothing. Underwears are right next to our skin and collect sweat and dead skin cells, which can stain the cloth. Bacteria love to grow on this dirt and produce a bad smell in addition to the specific odour of the seat. Underwear must be washed more frequently than the outer layer of clothing. Clothes should neither tight nor loose.

(d) Balanced Diet: A balanced diet is a key to healthy lifestyle. A balanced diet should contain all nutrients in right quantities like carbohydrates, high fibre content, water, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. Most people spoil their health by taking unnecessary food items. If you want to lead a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy food is crucial. You need to know what to eat and what to avoid in order to be fit and healthy. A balanced diet is not all about eating the right foods, but having them at correct time in right proportions.

(e) Good Posture: Posture is simply a position of a person's body when standing or sitting. Good posture is the correct alignment of body parts supported by the right amount of muscle tension against gravity. Without posture and the muscles that control it, we would simply fall to the ground.

(f) Proper Recreation: Recreation is an activity of leisure. The need to do something for recreation is an essential element of human biology and psychology. Stress and anxiety weaken our working ability. To overcome this, our mind and body need a full dose of recreation. Recreation is an activity that people engage in during their free time, that people enjoy, and that people recognize as having socially redeeming values. It touches on many aspects of our lives like nourishing people and building strong families and communities.
