Regular Student:

Private Student:
👉After Board Exam, One can reappear in it as Private Candidate for Improvement or Compartment.
👉If a Regular student decides to appear in Board Exam again without the support from his school, he becomes a Private Candidate.
👉Every Private Candidate is an Ex-Regular student of CBSE.
👉Private Candidate submit his application form online without any support from his last school.
👉Practical exam of a Private Candidate is conducted at exam centre,

Supplementary (Compartment) Examination CBSE
A student can appear in a maximum of one or two subjects (papers) in the CBSE Supplementary (Compartment) Examination. If a student fails in more than two subjects, they are placed in the "Essential Repeat(It replaces the term "Fail" to indicate that the student must repeat the entire academic year)" category.
For the 2026 session, Class 10 students may improve in up to two subjects, while Class 12 students are limited to one subject for improvement in the supplementary exam.

Question: Is it compulsory for a student who has failed in theory to repeat the practical examination also?
Ans: No, if the student has passed in Practical, previous practical marks will be carried forward and accounted for and the student will appear only in Theory. Please see Board’s circular in this regard on its website www.cbse.gov.in.
Question: When a student drops one year, what will be the syllabus for the examination next year?
Ans: The student has to appear in the syllabus prescribed for the year in which he or she plans to appear for exam. Students are advised to refer to the curriculum for that academic year available on the academic website www.cbseacademic.nic.in.
Question: Is a student eligible to improve performance after qualifying Class 10thand 12th?
Ans: Yes, a student who has qualified class 10th/12thexaminations may appear for improvement in 01 subject in supplementary exam in Class XII and 02 subjects in Class X or in one or more subjects in succeeding year.
Question: How many times can a student of Class 10th and 12th appear in Supplementary exam?
Ans: A student placed in supplementary can re-appear in July/August in the same year. He/She may also avail 2ndchance in February /March/April next year and may further avail 3rdchance in the supplementary exam to be held in month of July/August of that year.

Ans: A student has to pass in 05 subjects as offered by the student. Further student should have obtained 33% marks in theory & IA/Project/Practical separately & combined too.

Ans: No, a student appearing for improvement in one or more subjects cannot appear for additional subject simultaneously.
Question: What is the procedure if any student is not satisfied with the marks?
Ans: The student can apply for; 1. Verification of marks 2. Obtain photocopy of the evaluated answer book and 3. Re-evaluation

Ans: The marks may increase or decrease after the process of verification of marks/re-evaluation as per the actual marks obtained and the student will have to accept the revised result.
Question: Is a new Marks Sheet-cum-Certificate issued after verification of marks/re-evaluation?
Ans: Yes, a new Marks Sheet-cum-Certificate is issued in case of change of marks. It is issued only after the old Marks Sheet-cum-Certificate has been surrendered.
